Director Peyton Reed Joins 'Ant-Man', Alongside Writer Adam McKay
When Marvel's "Ant-Man" hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film's script. And that seems to settle that.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
After a whirlwind, controversy filled two weeks, Marvel has their new creative team for Ant-Man.
Peyton Reed’s an interesting choice. Having helmed mainstream comedies such as Bring It On and Yes Man, he may not be your first pick, but clearly he knows how to satisfy a studio. Looking at his IMDB profile, one can see that Reed has worked on irreverent comedies such as Mr. Show and the Upright Citizens Brigade series.
When mixed with a punched up script by Adam McKay (Anchorman), I have a feeling that even though this won’t be the Ant-Man film we want, this could still be an interesting, comedic diversion for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a perfect world, Edgar Wright would deliver his superhero film to us next July.
In this less than perfect one, Marvel may have found the way to make lemonade out of this situation. Here’s hoping for the best.
