Daily Blast: June 11th & 12th, 2014
A special double-sized edition - since the service I use to gather all these stories was down - this edition of the Daily Blast is jam packed full of goodness.
We’ve got the latest team-up of Rogen and Franco, the weirdest mech ever, an amazing NASA spaceship, and some more gaming news from E3.
Strap in, here is your DAILY BLAST!
Movies
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj3uHftd5FQ)- The surreal poster is up top, but here’s the first trailer for The Interview, the latest reteaming of James Franco and Seth Rogen, where Franco plays a talk show host who is recruited by the CIA to kill Kim Jong-un!
- Despite dying in the first film, Sigourney Weaver has signed on to appear in the three (yes, three) forthcoming Avatar sequels as a new character. I smell evil twin!
- The new trailer for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is looking pretty darn good.
- It has no title, but Kristen Wiig will be making her directoral debut with a film written by her and her Bridesmaids collaborator Annie Mumolo.
- Appropriately enough, Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson, Jr. has signed on to play Ice Cube in the NWA bio-flick Straight Out of Compton.
- I’m pretty much always in when it comes to Laika’s movies (Coraline, Paranorman), so obviously, this trailer for The Boxtrolls had me in from frame number one.
- Congratulations, Napoleon Dynamite - you’re 10 years old. Have an ugly ass statue.
-Â Sonic the Hedgehog is getting his own movie. It just has to be better than Super Mario Bros, right?
-Â Expect a 10 minute “super serious” cut of 22 Jump Street as a bonus on the Blu-Ray.
- Wonder why you can’t pre-order The LEGO Movie at Amazon? Yeah, they’re in the middle of a contract pissing match with Warner Bros.
- Celebrating 30 years of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paramount will be releasing a documentary, titled Turtle Power.
Gaming
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DBrG2YjqQA)- It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but with the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 5 hitting PlayStation 4 this fall, it’s also hitting the Xbox One and PC.
- Yeah, I think I’m going to have to pick up Alien: Isolation when it hits this October.
- The real question about the new Doom game: will IDDQD still work?!
-Â IRON FIST IS GONNA BE IN DISNEY INFINITY 2.0! OH MAN!
Comics
- It sounds confusing at times, but this upcoming Avengers arc, “Time Runs Out”, where Avengers and New Avengers jump ahead eight months in time sounds really cool.
- Unsurprisingly, with his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. integration, Deathlok is getting his own Marvel ongoing.
TV
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0UBbzeFc74)- I’ve never been an Avatar: The Last Airbender guy, but I feel like you guys are gonna be stoked about the trailer for the third season of The Legend of Korra.
- The Lion King is 20 years old, you guys. That means it is now officially time to make it relevant to a new generation, which the new The Lion Guard cartoon aims to do.
- Netflix will be rebooting The Magic School Bus as a CG animated series.
-Â Stanford researchers have actually looked into the mathematical possibility of the AMAZING dick joke from Silicon Valley’s season finale. It all adds up.
Tech
-Â I want this NASA Enterprise ship to become real. Keep doing the good work, Dr. White.
- The Nest officially has a challenger for high-tech thermostat supremacy - The Honeywell Lyric.
- For some reason, I was intensely fascinated by this story of Virgin Atlantic re-designing its food trays to save on fuel costs.
Music
-Â The New Pornographer’s will return in August with a new album titled Brill Bruisers.
- Death From Above 1979 will release their first album in 10 years, The Physical World, in September.
- Amazon has officially decided to take on Spotify with their own streaming solution - Amazon Prime Music.
Toys
- Bandai’s SH Figuarts line is getting a Star Wars shot to the arm with some awesome looking Darth Vader and Stormtrooper figures.
- This is the weirdest goddamned robot I’ve ever seen.
- ThinkGeek just won the heart of every video game nerd EVER.
- Never thought Kratos should look so adorable. Good job, Funko.
Food
- #FastFoodArmsRace: Wendy’s New Zealand has decided the only thing better than a Baconator is THREE different Baconators.
- Little Debbie is now bringing you the snacks of the sea. Because why not?
That’s all for today! See you tomorrow for ANOTHER Daily Blast!
