Daily Blast: June 17th, 2014
It’s Tuesday, June 17th - we’ve got singing Troll dolls, Draculas, the return of the Powerpuff Girls, an update on the American version of The Raid and some sad NBA stars.
Strap in - it’s time for your Daily Blast!
At the top of the post: Yes, they really are making an Angry Birds Transformers game, complete with “Autobirds” and “Deceptihogs”. I suppose it only makes sense given that Hasbro’s been making all of the toys for them…
Movies
- Mudbloods, the first documentary about those who play a real-life version of Quidditch (from Harry Potter) is due in theaters and on VOD this October.
- Anna Kendrick will star in the animated musical Trolls for Dreamworks. Based on the bare-assed toys, look for it in November 2016.
- Here’s our first look at Dracula Untold, a Batman Begins-styled prequel telling the story of Vlad the Impaler. Luke Evans stars.
- Looks like Harrison Ford’s ankle injury will keep him out from Star Wars: Episode VII filming for two months.
- Steven Spielberg has picked his next two projects - expect his untitled Cold War project (starring Tom Hanks, with a script from the Coen Brothers) on October 16, 2015, with an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG on July 1, 2016.
- The American remake of The Raid is already sounding less awful. Frank Grillo (last seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) has signed to star.
- Concept artist Kevin Jenkins has released much of his work from Edge of Tomorrow to his website. It’s a very cool look at how the exo-suits evolved through development.
- Remember The People vs. George Lucas, the look at Star Wars fans interesting relationship with the creator of the films? Get ready for a sequel. The People vs. George Lucas Episode II is now in production, for a release in December 2015. Just in time for Episode VII.
- This is clever: to promote Transformers: Age of Extinction, Paramount has teamed up with ride sharing service Uber. Be in the right city at the right time, and your ride will be in Optimus freakin' Prime!
TV
- Cartoon Network has announced that The Powerpuff Girls will return with a brand new series in 2016.
- Early word of mouth on Gotham, FOX’s pre-Batman Batman series, is actually super positive.
- In a new twist, Jimmy Kimmel Live decided to have NBA stars read mean tweets about them, instead of celebrities. The response is just as hilarious.
Tech
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhMBqPicB7o)- Dreamworks Animation has launched its own YouTube channel. Called DreamWorksTV, the channel will feature original programming, and launched yesterday with videoblogs from Shrek. Really.
- The new Nissan Concept 2020 car is totally rad.
Music
- Genesis is reuniting! …For a documentary.
- The Gaslight Anthem has announced their fifth album -Â Get Hurt - for an August 16 release.
