Daily Blast: June 23rd, 2014
Hello and welcome back to your regularly scheduled Daily Blast!
Sorry for the missing Blasts on Thursday and Friday. Real life intervened - although we were able to post about the AWESOME news of Rian Johnson joining the Star Wars family.
Never the less, we’re back in action today, and should be the rest of the week.
What do we have today?
In this Ninja Turtle heavy edition, we’ve got trailers, we’ve got awesome LEGO artwork, we’ve got the latest DC Movie Rumors, and word on a new Pixar short. AND MUCH MUCH MORE!
What are you waiting on? Read this NOW!
At the top of the post: that’s our first real look at Shredder as he appears in the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles film. I dig it.
Movies
- Latino-Review.com is reporting that in addition to the other DC Comic films rumored, Ben Affleck’s version of the Dark Knight will get a solo film in The Batman, hitting in 2019. Yes, movies are now planned for that year. Yes, that year is actually real, not just the setting of a sci-fi film.
- Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is teasing dinosaurs over at his Twitter.
- Pixar has announced Lava as the short to screen prior to Inside Out, their Summer 2015 release.
- Marvel Studios has signed Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) as the writer for the Doctor Strange movie.
- Paramount has evidently decided that 2016 is the year of the sequel, with having announced Transformers 5, Star Trek 3, Hanzel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2, GI Joe 3, Paranormal Activity 5, a new Beverly Hills Cop, and what the hell - a remake of Ben Hur all for that year.
- The final trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is pretty fantastic. I can’t wait!
- Legendary Pictures is releasing an adaptation of the video game Dead Rising, exclusively to Sony’s streaming service, Crackle.
- Here’s your first look at Robert Downey Jr’s next big starring role -Â The Judge.
TV
- The Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul got a mixed bag of news: on one hand, it’s been pushed to 2015. On the other, it has already been picked up for a second season by AMC!
- Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toon has been a smashing success. So much so, it’s been picked up for a fourth season. However, it will be with a notable casting change. Seth Green (Robot Chicken) will be taking over from Jason Biggs as Leonardo.
- This really awesome print inspired by the 1966 Batman TV series will be a San Diego Comic Con exclusive. Why must they always get the cool stuff?
- Lifetime is making a movie going behind the scenes of Saved by the Bell. Why does the first cast shot look like a Porn Parody?
- Viz has announced that the new Sailor Moon series, Sailor Moon Crystal, will stream online the same time it airs in Japan, starting July 5th.
- Rosario Dawson has joined the cast of Marvel/Netflix’s new Daredevil series, a choice sure to set fanboy hearts a flutter. After Clerks 2, I don’t blame them.
Gaming
- The long-awaited (by me at least) new-gen upgrade of the 2D luchadore platformer Guacamelee, titled Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition will release this July.
Comics
- With the blessing (and involvement) of Quentin Tarantino, DC Comics and Dynamite Comics are teaming up to bring us the unexpected crossover of Django and Zorro, by Matt Wagner (Grendel).
- Sanrio and DC Comics will team up to bring the “Gotham City Sirens" (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman) to Hello Kitty merchandise.
Tech
- Amazon has revealed their long-awaited smartphone, the Fire Phone. It seems like a great deal, if you’re already ingrained in the Amazon ecosystem. But personally? Doesn’t interest me, even with the cool new 3D camera technology.
Toys
- The hybrid building block/augmented reality gaming approach of the LEGO Fusion line seems like the future of the classic toy.
- Factory Entertainment is bringing what I believe to be the first-ever Archer action figure to San Diego Comic Con as an exclusive.
- Funko POP Vinyl goes Japan with a Dragonball Z line.
- It’s not LEGO, but this line of K’NEX sets using the Plants vs. Zombies license is pretty cool.
- Kaiyodo has released official press images for their Japan-Only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles line, part of their ongoing Revoltech series.
- Titan Merchandise will follow-up their line of vinyl figures inspired by Breaking Bad and Doctor Who with a set based on the first Alien film.
- The Hero Complex Gallery has teamed with artist Dan Shearn to put on “LEGO Memories (Or a Man-Child’s Recollection of the 80"²s Through Lego)“, a fantastic art-show mixing the LEGO mini-figure style and classic 1980’s films.
-Â I love this line of custom-built LEGO Heroes on Couches, by Angus MacLane (of Pixar!)
- Here’s a better look at the next two Transformers Masterpiece figures, Bumblebee & Ultra Magnus!
Food
- Ben & Jerry’s has announced their first two flavors in their Saturday Night Live series, inspired by “Gilly" and “Lazy Sunday".
That’s it for today! Be back tomorrow with another Daily Blast! The Daily Blast…it’s for your face!
