Daily Blast: June 24th, 2014
Happy Tuesday, dear readers! I hope today is treating you well!
In today’s Daily Blast: we’ve got special PS4 controllers, even more Michael Bay Ninja Turtles nonsense, a look back at Tim Burton’s Batman on its 25th Anniversary, a history of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and so much more!
Grab your morning coffee, sit back and relax as we take you through all the awesome the Internet has to offer, in today’s Daily Blast!
At the top of the post: These are the awesome variant covers that Marvel has commissioned Skottie Young to produce for this fall’s Spider-Verse event.
Movies
- Paramount has revealed another character poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - of Leonardo - with three more to come (possibly by the time this post goes live!).
- This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which I still consider one of the most unnerving movies I’ve ever seen. So, it’s only fair that a 4k Restoration Print gets toured this August. Check it out if you can, yeah?
- Yesterday marked - believe it or not - the 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton’s Batman. To celebrate, 1989Batman.com uploaded a 20-minute behind the scenes look on the film, which was used to convince investors of what Burton intended to do with the Dark Knight. My, how times have changed.
- Over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to Twitter to confirm that Nathan Fillion (Castle) has a cameo within the film. Who is he playing? No word, besides not Nova.
- Showcasing the different Districts in a pseudo-propaganda poster is certainly a unique way to promote The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.
- I don’t feel like The Purge lived up to its awesome concept, but perhaps its sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, will.
TV
- Blastr.com takes a lengthy look back at what is arguably one of the greatest animated comedy series of all time - Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.
Gaming
- Sony has confirmed that the “Wave Blue" DualShock controller for the PlayStation 4 will finally come to the US this Fall. Of course, I already have two controllers.
Comics
- Marvel will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of their company this October with an AMAZING sounding anthology comic, including work from Bruce Timm, Brian Michael Bendis, Chris Samnee, and, naturally, Stan Lee.
Toys
- Appropriate, given that they’re featured so heavily within Transformers: Age of Extinction, but Hasbro will be releasing a San Diego Comic Con exclusive Dinobots set, which decks the new-style Dinosbots in classic colors.
- Funko has started to unveil their SDCC 2014 exclusives, starting with some Ghostbusters Pop! Vinyl figures (and a special ReAction Rocketeer).
- Hasbro has announced that the long-lost Marvel Legends figure for Agent Venom will be - of all places - a Walgreen’s exclusive this Fall.
Music
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7-DjDF1MRM)- No matter how Zach Braff’s new film, Wish I Was Here turns out, at least we got a great new song, “So Now What", from the Shins out of it.
Hope you enjoyed, nerds! See you back tomorrow for your hump day edition of the Daily Blast!
