Daily Blast: June 30th, 2014
Your first Daily Blast of the week is also the last of June - look at that summer go!
What’s in today’s edition? We’ve got zombie rom-coms, we’ve got games leaked by European dealers, we’ve got expensive Batman toys, hell - we’ve even got Trapper Keepers!
Something for everyone. Read away!
At the top of the post: That’s the cover to Transformers Legacy, an awesome looking hardcover arriving this Fall, collecting the Transformers box art that induced so many daydreams in the children of my generation.
Movies
- This probably leaked a bit early, but here’s a first look at our cast of Big Hero 6. I feel like the designs are a bit Frozen and Tangled-esq. You can click the source link for individual posters.
- Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) loves Aubrey Plaza to death. Even after death. The Fall releasing zombie romantic comedy Life After Beth is looking pretty good.
- Skyfall writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been brought in to punch up the script for the latest James Bond film, currently still titled Bond 24.
- BatmanDracula begins in this first trailer for Dracula Untold, due out this October.
TV
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HaiGKiUuik)-Â Doctor Who will return on August 23 with the first adventure of the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi) in an extra long episode titled “Deep Breath”. The first teaser is above.
- Not my bag at all, but I feel like I know some folks who would be excited to see this trailer for the Phineas & Ferb Star Wars Special.
Tech
- In a super clever move, tablet case maker Kensington has teamed up with Mead to bring back the Trapper Keeper as a tablet case. I think I might need one for my next tablet.
Gaming
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTczqx-PWJU)- In this very cool video, No Man’s Sky developers Hello Games explain not only how they came upon the idea for the procedurally-generated space adventure, but their high ambitions for the game (which I thought was the coolest thing at E3).
- In a savvy move, it looks like Sony Europe will be bundling the HD remake of The Last of Us with the PlayStation 4 when it releases later in the Summer. No word on a similar US bundle.
- Speaking of European releases (which may hint to similar things here in the states), Amazon Germany has listed Batman: Arkham Origins - The Complete Edition, which is probably similar to the “Game of the Year” editions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, packing the game with all the DLC for free.
Toys
- Hasbro will be releasing a “Yearbook” set of the original 1984 Transformers, K-REO style (think LEGO) as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive.
- In a first, Hong Kong toymakers Hot Toys will be making figures in the 1:12 scale - understandable, as they’ve made a full-scale version of The Bat from The Dark Knight Rises, complete with super detailed Batman and Catwoman figures. The price? Seven hundred and eighty goddamned dollars.
- Titan Merchandise have a packed set of SDCC Exclusives for Doctor Who fans, including the debut of the Geronimo Collection (pictured above)!
- Marvel Select has released an AWESOME figure of the Incredible Hulk, harking back to his original appearance. (God, I’d love to see this on film, giant Kirby head and all.)
- With Pley, I can officially say there’s a Netflix for everything, as it allows you to rent and build LEGO sets. Not a bad idea, if your passion is the build.
That’s all for today! Be back tomorrow with another brand-spanking new edition of the Daily Blast! May your week be awesome.
