Daily Blast: July 1st, 2014
July is here, everyone - meaning we’ve hit the unofficial half-way mark of Summer.
But don’t fret! There’s more awesome to be had. 4th of July Fireworks, Guardians of the Galaxy, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and of course, your favorite Daily Blast, every weekday…minus a few when I’ll be away for Super Art Fight stuff.
What’s in today’s edition? Community has been saved, more SDCC exclusives, DC Comics is going batty, an update on Sherlock and so much more! Click through to read on!
At the top of the post: Marvel released three more character posters for Guardians of the Galaxy. You can check out the rest here.
Movies
- Bryan Singer took to Instagram to tease that the treatment for X-Men: Apocalypse is done.
- The Sundance darling The Skeleton Twins places Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig into dramatic roles, as a pair of siblings who reunite after a decade of silence. The first trailer has hit, and I’m already looking forward to its September 19 release.
- Composer Michael Giacchino gets all the props for his incredibly pun-filled track listing for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes score.
- With an image to support the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, we get our first look at Henry Cavill as Clark Kent in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
- Channing Tatum takes center stage in this new poster for Fall Oscar hopeful Foxcatcher.
TV
-Â Community will return as a web-only series for its sixth season, thanks to a last minute save by Yahoo!.
- A new image from Doctor Who Series 8 certainly seems to confirm the return of some old favorites.
- Martin Freeman is hinting towards a Sherlock Christmas Special, to be filmed next year.
Gaming
- The surreal PC title Goat Simulator will receive a proper retail release later this month.
Comics
- DC Comics is going Batman crazy! They’ve just announced two brand-new in continuity titles, Arkham Manor, where Wayne Manor becomes a new home for Arkham and Gotham Academy (pictured above), which showcases the adventures of a group of teenage girls at a Gotham prep school. If that wasn’t enough, Jiro Kuwata’s Batman Manga from 1966 is getting a digital release starting this Saturday. Combined, this means that DC will be concurrently publishing over a dozen Batman related titles at once.
Toys
- Toys R Us will have a number of San Diego Comic Con debuts this year, including an early release of the figures based on the 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie series
- Funko has announced a third batch of SDCC 2014 exclusives, including my personal favorite, a Bloody Pop! Vinyl of Hannibal.
See you back here tomorrow with your Wednesday edition of the Daily Blast!
