Daily Blast: July 7th, 2014
Hello and happy Monday fellow nerds!
I am back on the correct coast after a successful trip this past weekend to Anime Expo alongside Super Art Fight. It’s a real pleasure to get to do our brand of show so far away from home, and always surreal to have the heroes welcome we do.
Never the less, it’s time to get back to Blast-O-Rama business (until I leave for the next convention, on Thursday night), so here is your Monday Daily Blast, full of Fincher goodness, Doctor Who leaks and EVEN MORE Funko Pop Vinyls. ENJOY!
At the top of the post:Â That’s our first look at the latest set from LEGO’s crowdsourced Ideas line, the Exo Suit! Besides looking cool, this marks the first ever Green Space Man!
Movies
- In a very clever move, as a part of the promotion for Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios has launched a site for Galaxy Getaways, a faux galactic travel agency, showcasing a number of locations from the film.
- For an early taste at what Pacific Rim 2 might be, look no farther than this Guillermo Del Toro interview with the Wall Street Journal. Apparently we’ll be seeing a focus on the Drift, where the two pilots consciousnesses collide.
- Honestly, how great does the new trailer for David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl look? And how good does Trent Reznor’s score sound?
- Add two unknowns to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII, Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson. The movie will also be taking a two week production break to help with the healing time of Harrison Ford (who broke his leg on-set last month).
TV
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbX4tNG_k3s)- Here’s yet another teaser trailer for the new season of Doctor Who, although I’m not sure if teasers are needed any more, since the first five scripts apparently leaked to the Internet this weekend…
Gaming
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmY3jd0z8ho)- Kickstarted Mega Man heir-apparent Mighty No. 9 is attempting a multi-media blitz, as an animated series is now in the works.
Comics
- Following such themed variant cover months as Bombshells, Steampunk and 1960's Batman, DC Comics is bringing (ugh) SELFIES month to stores in August. This was revealed, appropriately, on Instagram, with the above cover to Batman/Superman #14.- As a part of Marvel’s Avengers and X-Men crossover event, AXIS, Carnage and Hobgoblin will be getting solo mini-series of their own.
Toys
- Adding to their extensive list of SDCC Exclusives, Funko will have 2 Marvel exclusives at the con - a set of Marvel Mystery Minis, and a special Flocked (read: furry) variant of Rocket Raccoon’s Pop Vinyl, pictured above!
- The Fwoosh! got a very nice first-look at Mattel’s SDCC release of the Batman: Arkham Knight Batmobile.
Music
- In a surreal turn of events, a new Pink Floyd album, titled The Endless River will hit shelves later this year. Built off of leftover recordings from 1994’s The Division Bell, this new album will release alongside a 20th Anniversary edition of what may thought was Pink Floyd’s final release.
See you tomorrow at your normal time for your TUESDAY Daily Blast!
