Daily Blast: July 9th, 2014
Good morning and hello, dear friends!
As the SDCC hype continues, today’s Daily Blast is full of comics news and not just one, but two high-profile new FPS games. Plus that hot mess above.
Check it out!
At the top of the post:Â That Photoshop nightmare is the first poster for Exodus: Gods and Kings, director Ridley Scott’s retelling of the story of Moses. As you’ll see in the movies section, the trailer looks better.
Movies
- Bad Robot (JJ Abrams' production company) took to Twitter last night to confirm that Star Wars: Episode VII is shooting some sequences in native IMAX.
- See? Told you the trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings was better than the poster.
- With this trailer for Sharknado 2, I feel like someone forgot that what made the first so “good” was that no one expected it. Now I can’t wait for this second one to just air and be done with.
- Ehren Kruger (Transformers) has been assigned the role of
ruining another franchisebringing a live-action Dumbo to life with a first pass at a script.
Books
- JK Rowling has written a new short story in the Harry Potter series, picking up with Harry as a 34-year-old attending the Quidditch World Cup.
Gaming
- Super Mario Bros. is getting its own line of Converse sneakers in Japan, including the super awesome looking Bowser kicks above.
- Gearbox, creators of Borderlands, have announced their first title for the new generation of consoles. Battleborn, a first-person MOBA game will hit PC, Xbox One and PS4, and is this month’s Game Informer cover story.
- Speaking of top shooter developers, Cliffy B (Cliff Beszinski) is back in gaming. Yesterday, he announced his first new game since leaving Epic in 2012, a Free to Play shooter titled Blue Streak.
Comics
- The Poster Posse is back for a second round to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Batman.
- Artist Alex Maleev (Iron Man) will team up with writers Mike Mignola and John Arcudi for a new Hellboy & The BPRD series from Dark Horse Comics this December.
- BOOM! Studios has announced a new Fraggle Rock mini-series, written by Kate Leth (Bravest Warriors)
- DC Comics made two big announcements at io9.com yesterday - the new creative team for Catwoman, and the return of classic Jack Kirby character Klarion: The Witch Boy, with his own solo series.
- Additionally, DC Comics has announced the return of Lobo, in a series hitting this October pitting the New 52 version versus the classic Lobo, now called “Faux-bo”.
- Up next in DC Comics' run of never ending variant covers - October 2014’s Monsters Month.
Toys
- Two toys are back from the dead at once, as Hasbro releases a ROM: The Space Knight Mighty Mugg! Of course, it’s an SDCC Exclusive.
- Believe it or not, but the above The Walking Dead play set is made of building blocks. Kind of. Todd McFarlane is now attempting to do for the block building world what he did with action figures. Which I guess just means “making them more elaborate/expensive”?
- Gentle Giant is bringing an awesome Rocket Raccoon mini-bust to SDCC 2014.
- Dark Horse is bringing a number of Game of Thrones collectibles to SDCC, including pewter figures of Daenerys' dragons.
That’s that for your Wednesday Daily Blast! Let us know what you think of today’s edition of the comments, we’d love to hear from you.
