Daily Blast: July 15th, 2014
Back from Connecticut, it’s your favorite regular recap of all the great geeky news found on the web - it’s your DAILY BLAST!
Seriously, how are we already mid-way through July?
What’s in today’s edition? It’s a comics-heavy edition, leading into San Diego Comic Con, plus we’ve got our first OFFICIAL look at the cast of Big Hero 6, fighting game news coming out of EVO 2014, and the first of Weird Al’s new videos! Read on and enjoy!
At the top of the post: Like the rest of you, I am WAY excited for this October’s relaunch of Batgirl.
Movies
- Just in time for a new trailer to release soon, Disney has finally officially revealed the full cast (and list of voice actors) for this November’s Marvel CG collaboration, Big Hero 6.
- Here’s our first look at Uku, the lead of Lava, the new Pixar short premiering in front of Inside Out in June 2015.
- Taking the form of a faux newspaper article, the above is the teaser poster for the film adaptation of Joe Hill’s Horns, starring Daniel Radcliffe.
- Harmontown, the documentary based on the podcast of the same name, hosted by Community creator Dan Harmon, will have a theatrical and VOD release this fall.
TV
- Complete with sweet facial hair, Agent Kallus is the other big bad in the forthcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series.
- Looks like Colin Farrell will be one of three leads in the second season of HBO’s True Detective.
- IS THAT A T-REX IN THE NEW DOCTOR WHO SEASON 8 TRAILER?!
Gaming
- Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War) revealed the first image from his next game, Bluestreak over on Reddit.
- Team Teamwork, who I remember best for the great rap/Final Fantasy mash-up album Vinyl Fantasy 7, have returned with the Katamari based Katamari Da-Emcee.
- The long-rumored Heavenly Sword movie, based off of the PS3 title, is finally getting released. Look for it on disc and download on September 2nd.
- The latest character to join the Mortal Kombat X cast is thunder god Raiden, making another classic choice for the new installment.
- Apparently we’ll be seeing an animated short film based on Assassin’s Creed: Unity at SDCC 2014, directed by Rob Zombie (The Devil’s Rejects) and comic artist Tony Moore (The Walking Dead).
- Announced at EVO 2014, here’s your first look at Tekken 7, celebrating TWENTY YEARS of Tekken. God I’m old. (Tekken 3 is still the best)
- The cast of Super Smash Bros for the Wii-U and 3DS has expanded, now including Captain Falcon and Lucina & Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
- There will be a number of different pre-order incentives for LEGO Batman 3, but really, the only one you’ll care about is a LEGO Plastic Man figure, exclusive to (sigh) GameStop.
Comics
- This October, Alex Kot (Zero) and Marco Rudy (Marvel Knights: Spider-Man) will bring the cosmic-infused Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier to Marvel Comics.
- This is jarring - in this week’s new issue of Life of Archie, Archie will be shot, and die, after stepping in the path of a bullet meant for Kevin Keller.
Toys
- Looks like DC Collectibles has a lot of awesome toys to showcase at SDCC, including a “Zero Year” styled Batman.
- The latest in their Iron Man 3 line, Hot Toys will be bringing a 1:6 scale version of the Mark XLI “Bones” armor to collectors later this year.
Music
- The first video from Weird Al’s new album, Manditory Fun, has hit the web - a spoof of Pharrell’s “Happy”, the video for “Tacky” is full of awesome comedians.
Be back tomorrow! Have a great day!
