Daily Blast: July 16th, 2014
Happy Wednesday, Nerdarinos!
Here’s hoping you got your Lady Thor nerd rage out yesterday, as I’d love to see the internet be a better place today (for the record, I freaking LOVE the idea of Lady Thor). But even if you haven’t - don’t worry! - we’ve got another Daily Blast practically splitting at the seams with nerdy goodness.
What’s on tap today? Weird Al has another video, 80’s icons team up in comic form, Futurama looks more beautiful than ever, Â and Joss Whedon trolls the internet! Strap in, let’s BLAST away!
At the top of the page: Artist Alexey Zakharov decided to take a stab at what a 3D animated version of Futurama would look like. Per his version? BEAUTIFUL.
Movies
- Big Hero 6, Disney & Marvel’s awesome looking CG film, will be getting a manga prequel, titled Baymax, in Japan.
- Studio Ghibli’s The Tale of Princess Kaguya is set for a US release October 17 - you can read up on the dubbed cast list here.
- Here’s a look at Simon Pegg’s latest flick, Hector and the Pursuit of Happiness, a story of a psychologist traversing the globe to find out what makes people happy.
- Apparently Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has a filmed, but unused alternate ending. I still haven’t seen it yet, so I didn’t read this, but you totally can here!
- The Power Rangers movie is moving forward with Roberto Orci (Star Trek) producing, and a script being cooked up by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who worked on drafts of X-Men: First Class and Thor.
- Newcomer Neel Sethli will star as Mowgli in Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book.
- Valiant Comics’Â Archer & Armstrong is the next comic to get a big on-screen adaptation.
- Yesterday brought the poster, today, welcome the trailer for the movie adaptation of Joe Hill’s Horns.
- Kate Mara, starring as the Invisible Woman, says that the new Fantastic Four movie isn’t based on the comics. I assume she means its an original story? Yeah, I dunno.
TV
- Adult Swim looks to be in the Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks)Â business for a very long time.
- Tonight Show? Feh. Conan O’Brien’s now going to really make it - he’ll be starring in Roger Corman’s Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda, premiering on Syfy August 2nd.
- Joss Whedon decided to bring Firefly back this week. In drawing form.
- Fox has released yet another trailer for Gotham which fails to excite me. I’m in for the pilot, either way.
Gaming
- This is really cool - someone built an incredibly elaborate BioShock Infinite LEGO diorama.
- In a not terribly shocking move, Sony intends to port PS3 games to the PS4, in an attempt to showcase their backlog with those coming from Xbox 360’s and Wii’s last generation. Works for me.
- Adam West will be appearing as Adam West in LEGO Batman 3. HELL YEAH.
Tech
- No sooner than I get all excited about Tesla’s thanks to The Oatmeal, the electric car company has announced the Model 3, a smaller, more affordable Tesla. I’m all ears, Elon Musk.

- Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) and Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) are teaming with artist Paolo Rivera (Daredevil) for a stand-alone Valiant Comics crossover titled, The Valiant.

Music
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irvcf6dCk-k)- Jenny Lewis is back with a new solo album (The Voyager), and the video for the first single (“Just One of the Guys”) features Kristen Stewart, Brie Larson and Anne Hathaway in drag.
- Video 2 of 8 from Weird Al’s Mandatory Fun is for “Word Crimes”, a spoof of “Blurred Lines”. This video is pretty great.
