Daily Blast: July 18th, 2014
Hello! You’ve made it! It’s the end of the week!
Which means, really, there’s no better thing to do than kick back, slack off, and enjoy this week’s edition of the Daily Blast.
We’ve got some last minute SDCC news, we’ve got some Guardians of the Galaxy stuff, it’s a good way to end the week. Enjoy.
At the top of the post: Every year for the past few years, Warner Bros. has sponsored the giant swag bags for SDCC. This year’s batch was revealed, and all I can say is - there’s really a show called Mike Tyson Mysteries?!
Movies
- Yesterday, the secondary characters. Today? The villains of Guardians of the Galaxy get their own posters.
- This trailer for the Mark Duplass/Elisabeth Moss starring The One I Love just has me wondering what on Earth the twist is!
- Here’s your first look at Aquaman from the next direct-to-video DC Comics Animated film, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.
- Yes, there’s a Goosebumps movie. Yes, Jack Black is the lead. Yes, he’s starring as RL Stine, as seen in these new photos. Look for it in August 2015.
TV
- Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) is the latest to join Marvel/Netflix’s Daredevil series. She’ll be playing classic Matt Murdock love interest Karen Page.
- Jason Issacs (Harry Potter) has signed on to appear as the lead baddie in Star Wars Rebels, The Inquisitor.
- The blu-ray set for the 1966Â Batman live-action series is officially up for pre-order on Amazon, with a November 11 release date.
Gaming
- A mobile game for Guardians of the Galaxy launched yesterday. It sounds fun enough, but I may end up supporting it just because it features ZERO in-app purchases.
Comics
- Mashable got an exclusive first-look at Superior Iron Man, the Avengers NOW! title from Marvel that relocates Tony Stark (with new armor, of course) to San Francisco.
Toys
- It looks like Bandai’s line of Big Hero 6 toys is going to end up as rad as the movie. Definitely need a Baymax…
- This is an odd sentence to write. Walgreens continues to be the hotbed of new exclusive toys. After getting Marvel and Star Wars exclusives from Hasbro, they’ll be home to an exclusive line of Doctor Who figures from Underground Toys.
- Looks like LEGO has some more exclusives planned for SDCC 2014. In addition to some mini-figure giveaways, including The Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy (above), they’ll be selling more exclusive sets besides Rocket Raccoon and his ship…INCLUDING A CLASSIC BATMOBILE. DAMN IT ALL.
- Hot Toys has unveiled their first Guardians of the Galaxy figures - you can get high end versions of Groot and Rocket Raccoon separately, or as a special double-pack. Either way, I’m sure - very expensive.
Music
- Weird Al continues his run of the Internet this week with his fourth video from Mandatory Fun. Here’s “Handy”, a spoof of “Fancy”.
See you back here on Monday! Have a great weekend!
