Daily Blast: August 4th, 2014
Happy Monday everyone! How many times have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy so far?
Today is our first Daily Blast of August, and there’s some fun news bits that came out over a mostly quiet weekend.
What’s on tap? An amazing Marvel video montage, Saga artist Fiona Staples does Thor, and the first good idea I’ve heard for a new Ghostbusters yet. Click through to read on!
At the top of the post: Now that Guardians of the Galaxy is officially out, Marvel feels comfortable enough officially releasing an image of the mad titan Thanos from the film. Thanos is motion captured and voiced by Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men).
Movies
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cInu82fWFfQ)- Speaking of Marvel, over the weekend, they officially released the video they used as the introduction to their SDCC 2014 panel, a brilliant montage of the 10 films that have made up the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, from Iron Man in 2008, to this weekend’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Nerds! Chill out. Studio Ghibli hasn’t closed yet. Despite posts all around the web this weekend, the truth is, they’ve suspended productions while they figure out their next step, now that Miyazaki has retired. This COULD be the end of the studio, or a new beginning. Stay tuned, and don’t pull out that Jump To Conclusions Mat.
- On Friday, we gave you the release date for Jon Stewart’s Rosewater. Now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, here’s some first look stills!
- Two new posters for David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl (due in October) have hit the web.
- Just in time for the home video release of The Muppets Most Wanted (did anyone see this? I missed it.), a new Muppets series, titled Disney Drive-On with the Muppets has launched on YouTube.
- Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is being courted by Sony to direct a new Ghostbusters movie. Instead of a Ghostbusters 3, however, this would be a psuedo-reboot, featuring a new, all-female team of paranormal investigators. I really, really like this idea.
- Looks like Universal is moving forward with a live-action film adaptation of Clifford: The Big Red Dog.
- Will Ferrell is in talks to play Russ Meyer in Russ and Roger Go Beyond, a movie about the making of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, which was written by Roger Ebert.
- After Exodus: Gods and Kings, what’s next for legendary director Ridley Scott? He’ll be helming an adaptation of The Martian, due out in November 2015.
- Man, people sure do take a made up sport from a book and film series seriously. At least that’s the idea behind the forthcoming documentary Mudbloods.
- Were you chomping at the bit for a reboot to the Transporter franchise? Good news! The Transporter Legacy hits theaters in March 2015.
- Bill Murray has joined the cast of Jon Favreau’s live-action version of The Jungle Book. He’ll be voicing Baloo the Bear.
Comics
- Artist Fiona Staples (Saga) is contributing an AWESOME variant cover to November’s Thor #1.
Toys
- I’m sure eccentric millionaires read this site, right? Because you’d have to be, to afford (and want to buy) this life-sized Iron Man Mark VII armor.
See you tomorrow, gang!
