Daily Blast: August 7th, 2014
Happy Thursday, folks! Yesterday was a pretty big day of nerd news, with a whopping NINE DC Comics movies dated - but not officially announced. Some other things happened as well, though, so I’ve gathered them up for you in the pool skimmer of the internet known simply as….the Daily Blast.
What do we have today?
More movie date changes, the awful title of the new Terminator film, an EVA the price of some people’s salaries, and the worst typo ever. Read on, gentle reader!
At the top of the post: Based on last week’s Hawkeye #19, geek shirt retailer WeLoveFine has a new Hawkeye shirt written in sign language, with the proceeds going to the Signing Time Foundation.
Movies
- The new Terminator reboot has an official logo - and revised title. Once called Terminator: Genesis, they decided to get all hip for the kids, and it’s now…Terminator Genisys. Ugh.
- I was pretty stoked with the Kickboxer remake when I had heard that UFC’s Georges St. Pierre and WWE’s Dave Bautista were going to be in it, but now I’m REALLY hyped - TONY JAA just joined the cast!
- Sure to be a fun extra on the eventual Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray, here’s Chris Pratt giving you a tour of the Milano, his starship in the film.
- A number of new character posters for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 have been released, featuring the residents of District 13.
- In today’s Studio Ghibli updated, Hayao Miyazaki may be returning to direct an animated short. Is it a farewell? Or a new beginning for the studio?
- Of all properties, the website WorldStarHipHop.com has been optioned for a movie by Paramount. I wonder then, if they will bootleg their own movie and post it with a giant watermark.
- It looks like the Star Wars presence in Disney’s theme parks is about to ramp up BIG TIME.
- Kingsman: The Secret Service (based on Mark Millar’s The Secret Service) is moving back from it’s original September release date, to a February 13, 2015 release.
- What movie is getting a Bollywood remake? If you said teen cancer drama The Fault in Our Stars, you get a gold star!
- Rock star and comedic actress Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia) is writing her first film, an adaptation of the UK series Lost in Austen.
TV
- When in doubt, make a new CSI. In an announcement that sounds like a Funny or Die video, CBS has announced CSI: Cyber for 2015 debut, with James Van Der Beek starring.
- Interesting, it looks like CBS has chosen James Corden (Doctor Who) as the replacement for Craig Ferguson. Not what I expected at all.
- Speaking of talk shows, now that Chelsea Handler has left E!, they’re looking for a new talk show - and are moving forward with a pilot starring YouTube star Grace Helbig (who I’ve come to enjoy on her @Midnight appearances).
Gaming
- The awesome GTA-clone Sleeping Dogs will be getting an Xbox One/PS4 re-release this October, with all of the DLC in tow.
- At the end of this month, Mario Kart 8 will be getting classier, with free DLC cars from Mercedes-Benz. Seriously.
- Classic RPG Dragon Quest IV has hit iPhones. Wait, I’m sorry, it’s actually Dargon Quest IV that has hit the iPhone. Dargon.
Toys
- Only in Japan can you buy a 6-foot tall EVA Unit-01 from Evangelion for $18,000 from your local 7-Eleven. Why not here?
- Here’s your first look at the box art for LEGO’s Ultimate Collector’s Set of the Tumbler from the most recent Batman films.
Be back tomorrow for your Friday Daily Blast! Enjoy your day!
