Daily Blast: August 20th, 2014
Happy Wednesday to you, dear readers! It’s time once again for your favorite round up of all things geek - the Daily Blast!
In today’s edition, we’ve got Marvel and DC movie news, a weird movie team-up, and a farewell to a great series of books. Read on and enjoy!
At the top of the post: There’s our first look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (who clearly has been through some shit) in Ant-Man, thanks to USA Today.
Movies
- In a weird move - Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed himself as the star of Warner Bros/DC Comics’Â Shazam. That said, he won’t confirm if he’s playing the lead hero, or the villain, Black Adam. Odd, right?
-Â Heads up, Cornetto fans! Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg are discussing a new movie together! Sure, it’s probably FAR from ready, but…they have a title!
- The first trailer for Jason Reitman’s next, Men, Women, and Children showcases how the movie focuses on how smartphones have changed our lives and relationships. Perhaps irreversibly?
- Sad news for movie nerds everywhere (and Doug Benson fans) - the 2015 Edition of the Leonard Maltin Movie Guide will be its last. Pre-order yourself a piece of history.
- Kevin Smith, Johnny Depp and their respective daughters, are teaming up for a new movie called Yoga Hosers, which is a follow up of sorts to Smith’s forthcoming Tusk. Who would’ve, in a million years, forseen that combo?
TV
-Â Star Wars Rebels is officially set for an October 3rd Debut on Disney XD, with regular episodes starting on October 13th, with new episodes every Monday following.
- Adrienne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will be joining the cast of Agents of SHIELD as Mockingbird. This marks her second time playing a superheroine, her first was starring in the ill-fated Wonder Woman pilot.
- Guillermo del Toro’s vampire opus The Strain has been renewed for a second season by FX.
Gaming
- Rumor has it that video game studio Activision is now looking into developing their own film studio. Call of Duty: The Movie anyone?
Tech
- Taking things to the next logical level, Roku has teamed with TV set builders TCL and Hisense to make the first official Roku TVs. Personally, I continue to prefer a separate box, versus a Smart TV.
That’s all for today! See you tomorrow with a brand new Daily Blast!
