Daily Blast: August 21st-22nd, 2014
Hello and Good Morning! Welcome to your Friday edition of the Daily Blast!
Sorry about missing yesterday, real life job duties called, and I was unable to get an article out, but hey! You get a double sized one today.
In today’s edition - amazing info filled posters, the coolest Adam West and Burt Ward toys ever, LEGO’s beautiful new headquarters, and one of my favorite actresses may be working with one of my favorite directors.
It’s all that and more, in today’s Daily Blast!
At the top of the post: Nerdist.com got an exclusive reveal of art from the forthcoming Info"¢Rama exhibit, featuring art collaborated upon by Tom Whalen and Kevin Tong - who you may remember some from amazing Mondo posters. This show is all about beautiful posters that also double as infographics. It’s a really stellar idea. Check it out!
Movies
- At the least, it’s consistent: David Yates, who directed the final four Harry Potter films, has been signed to direct the JK Rowling-penned Harry Potter-psuedo-prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
- HELL YES! Jennifer Lawrence is rumored to be in talks to star in Quentin Tarantino’s next, The Hateful Eight, due next year.
- While it is not an X-Men movie, sadly, Jake Gyllenhaal’s next movie, Nightcrawler is looking damn good in its latest trailer.
- Way to go China. Your newest idea to fight rampant piracy and to get people back into theaters is to not just encourage texting during the film, but also display the texts on screen. Fuck right off with that.
- Of all the actors starring in a robot heavy sci-fi thriller, Antonio Banderas was not one I expected. But Automata looks pretty good!
- Good lord. Exclusive prints, screenings of never before seen animated films, movies with lost scores, posters, an Iron Giant art show?! MondoCon really is designed for me. Shame I can’t find myself being in Austin, TX any time soon…
- Shane Black (Iron Man 3) has been signed by Sony to direct The Destroyer, based on the long-running book series. If it doesn’t ring a bell, here, I’lll put it this way…REMO WILLIAMS IS GETTING A REBOOT, KIDS!
TV
- Are you ready for pre-cog CSI? Minority Report is being developed into a TV series by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television production company.
Gaming
[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5A-W7QvFRQ)- Currenly only known as Game #4, this is the new game from The Behemoth, developers of the awesome Castle Crashers.
- OK Bungie, with every new Destiny trailer, you’re making the wait until September 9th even harder. Jerks.
Comics
- CNN’s Anderson Cooper is officially a part of the Marvel Universe, as he will appear in November’s Black Widow #12. How Marvel is doing this, yet Time Warner (who owns CNN) hasn’t done this with DC Comics (who they also own) is beyond me.
Toys
- Sure, they cost about $100 each, but aren’t these Japan-only Batman ‘66 styled Batman and Robin figures AWESOME?
- The beautiful looking new animated film The Book of Life is getting some equally beautiful looking toys from Funko, including both Pop! Vinyls, and the more traditional Legacy figures (pictured).
- The new LEGO headquarters is being built (a photo of the rendering above), and not only does it look freakin’ beautiful, but LEGO is also going to (of course) release a special set of it.
- Mattel has announced the “Unleashed” Doomsday figure as the final installment of their long running, fan favorite DC Universe action figure line.
- Turns out Square-Enix’s new Cloud figure has ALL OF THE SWORDS.
Music
- Not only has Aphex Twin confirmed the “deep web” reveal of his new album SYRO, but the press release is a beautiful, must-read mess of language.
- Bad news: The New Weezer album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End has been pushed back a week to an October 7th release. Good news: The track list has been revealed including…a three song suite? LIKE A ROCK OPERA?! LIKE SONGS FROM THE BLACK HOLE?! Calm down, calm down…must not get excited for a post-Pinkerton Weezer album.
That’s it for this week! See you back here on Monday!
