I really don’t like being super negative, but the trailer for the new Cameron Crowe movie, Aloha, has hit and…I’m not sure if I’m just watching it the wrong way, or if it’s really not good.

I really enjoy Cameron Crowe’s movies - Say Anything, Almost Famous - but so far, Aloha seems almost like the world’s most subtle Cameron Crowe parody.

Perhaps it’s a really poor trailer, but with an amazing cast, including Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Bill Murray, Rachel McAdams, and Alec Baldwin, the way it’s cut and structured couldn’t feel more cookie cutter. The only way it could be worse is if characters were literally explaining their roles. “I’m the hard luck smart ass trying to get his life straight.” “I’m the young ingenue who teaches you to love again!” “I’m the old guy who inspires you to greatness!” “I’m the one who got away!”

Perhaps I’m being too cynical. We’ll find out when Aloha hits theaters on May 29, 2015.
