Late last night, director Zack Snyder took to the Internet - as he seems to do lately - and made another fan-frothing announcement for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

What did he have in-store for us this time? A video announcing that the trailer is coming - this Monday, April 20th.

More than that, however - in a move that somewhat confuses me, they’ll be having free screenings of the trailer at IMAX theaters around the United States on Monday as well.

Yep. Free screenings of a trailer. Which means that video is a teaser of a teaser trailer which you have to go see physically?

Hey - I love movie trailers. I love special events - I’m very excited for the livestream from Star Wars Celebration later today, which is rumored to have the first broadcast of a new trailer from The Force Awakens. I even went to “first screening" events for Avatar and TRON Legacy.

But here’s the big difference in my eyes - the hype versus the delivery. Celebration will bring us “just" a trailer, but we can just watch it from our homes streaming. The Avatar and TRON events featured a look at significant footage from each film, also showcasing specific projection techniques (Avatar’s 3D was a big question at the time, and needed a real world demonstration.)

Shy of WB doing something really cool for fans - like a giveaway or something - what is the benefit of heading to the theater for a 2 minute trailer, which will (if they’re smart) be online right after in HD quality?

Like so many WB / DC decisions, it baffles the mind. Even as they’re making good ones, they find ways to make other decisions that just don’t make sense.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
