One of the biggest question marks this Summer is the latest adaptation of the classic Marvel comic series Fantastic Four. After two mostly forgettable installments in the mid—2000’s, Fantastic Four is being rebooted under the eye of Chronicle director Josh Trank, and today, we have a new preview of the film.

The first trailer definitely grabbed my attention, applying a darker, Cronenberg-ian body horror feel to the classic superhero tale. I’m not sure what separates this from other films where I feel a dark interpretation misses the mark - but from what I’ve seen so far, this unique adaptation of the story of Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch, The Invisible Woman and The Thing is a revised version I really want to see.

Today’s trailer gives us a closer look into how the cast interacts. A practical “who’s who" of young Hollywood, we have Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell (The Adventures of Tintin) as Ben Grimm. I really like what we see of them in this trailer, including the awkward exchanges between the brainy Reed Richards and the super-cool Johnny Storm.

The X-Factor? The very brief glimpses of Doctor Doom. Once again, Doom takes the stage as the villain of the film, and Doom is a character dying for an awesome movie interpretations. The version presented in the two prior Fantastic Four films was awful to say the least, so the bar is low - let’s hope they can excel far beyond it.

If you’re looking for a closer look at the “new" Fantastic Four, a poster was released today as well, showcasing the leads in all their glory - including a very, very rocky version of the Thing.  It’s kind of a Photoshop disaster, but on the whole, I like the feel of their suits.
