Yesterday at Star Wars Celebration the focus shifted from the epics coming to the big screen to the great work being done on the small screen, as fans got their first look at season two of Star Wars: Rebels.

I have to admit - I didn’t make my way through all of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, having just watched the first two seasons. They were well executed, for sure, but they focused on a timeline (the prequels) that I was pretty much done with - even as an admitted prequel apologist.

I’ve been meaning to get caught up on what I missed via Netflix, but I’ve heard even more wonderful things about Star Wars: Rebels, the new series that takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope airing on Disney XD. I’ve caught a handful of episodes, and all indications are that it’s a great, fun series taking place in an uncharted part of the Star Wars mythos.

With the new trailer that premiered this weekend, however? I’m definitely in.

You’ve got James Earl Jones returning as Vader, returns of some fan favorite characters from The Clone Wars, and an overall vibe that now that Dave Filoni and team have laid the groundwork, Season Two is going to really make Rebels something special. They also unveiled some very, very cool artwork for Season Two, appearing below.

There’s no set airdate for the new season of Star Wars Rebels (word is a Summer premiere, followed by the season proper in the Fall), but I now know I’ve definitely got to get caught up on iTunes or something.
