Overnight, on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ben Affleck revealed the new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

And oh man, is it weird. And spoiler-filled.

I’m not sure who decided that we needed to have the whole plot of the movie revealed to us, but sure enough here we are.

If I have it correctly, the beats of the movie are:

  • An International Incident leads to the world becoming even more wary of Superman.
  • Bruce Wayne comes to Metropolis to investigate Superman.
  • Bruce - scarred by the death of a prior Robin - doesn’t want another hero being so risky with their abilities.
  • Lex Luthor manipulates them into fighting each other.
  • They fight.
  • Things explode, a lot.
  • Lex Luthor uses General Zod’s body to create Doomsday.
  • Doomsday causes Superman and Batman to team up - but not before Wonder Woman runs in to show how bad-ass she is.
  • Presumably all three beat Doomsday and Lex, and are like “We can bring forth Justice! As some kind of League!" Freeze-frame, credits roll like a 70’s sitcom.

It doesn’t look all bad. The action looks impressive, as we’d expect from Zack Snyder, and I do continue to like Ben Affleck’s Batman, but I’m iffy on the rest. Superman seems like a big blue jerk, the whole thing feels SUPER dour, and the Zod/Doomsday thing feels like one plotline too many.

That said - I can’t wait for Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor to take up ALL the scenery. At least he’ll grab more of the screen than Clark’s glasses. Jesus they’re huge.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
