If you missed this over the Holiday break, you’re not alone: Christopher Nolan is gearing up for his next film.

Revealed by Variety on Monday:

Christopher Nolan looks to be headed to France during World War II for his next project.

Sources tell Variety that Nolan will direct “Dunkirk" from his own original screenplay as his next project. Insiders say the yet-to-be cast unknowns will lead the cast, but that Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are in talks to join the ensemble.

Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas.

Coming off of original films such as Interstellar and Inception, it’s interesting to see Nolan tackling concepts as seemingly mundane as yet another World War II movie. Sure, the film being shot in IMAX and 65mm format will add a unique visual flair, but on paper, I’m left scratching my head as to why this project gained Nolan’s focus.

That said - it’s very early, and I’m sure we’ll have a better idea once the first footage is revealed.

Dunkirk hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
