Earlier today, Dreamworks released to the web the proper trailer for their reboot of the classic 80’s cartoon Voltron: Defender of the Universe.

Launching on Netflix this June, the new series is titled Voltron: Legendary Defender, and looks to be a well-done relaunch of the beloved series, which featured a team of teens piloting giant lion robots that (of course) can combine into one larger robot.

This really looks great. The animation looks clean (and does not appear to be taking shortcuts, unlike say…the Batman: Killing Joke direct-to-video release), the showrunners come from modern-classics Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and the voice cast is full of popular nerd talent, including The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun, Flight of the Conchords' Rhys Darby, and even A Different World’s Cree Summer! It’s hard to argue against the new Voltron’s chances of success.

At the very least, this looks like a way better classic cartoon relaunch than Amazon’s Thunderbirds redux.

Now, the most important question as a grown adult who still loves giant robots, and fondly remembers hours spent playing with a giant Lion Force Voltron: where are the new toys?

Voltron: Legendary Defender hits Netflix on June 10, 2016 - with all 13 episodes dropping at once, perfect for binge-watching.
