I think after Batman v. Superman, Warner Bros are taking a long, hard look at what they have planned for the DC Comics Extended Universe, and looking to make some strong changes.

We heard last week about Booster Gold now getting a look for his own film. Now they’re doubling down on one of their best bets so far - Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit (awesome name), Warner Bros is liking what they’ve seen of Robbie’s Quinn from Suicide Squad, and wish to give her a solo movie of her own.

But it won’t just be a Harley Quinn movie, oh no! This will include many other of DC’s popular female characters - Batgirl and the Birds of Prey being mentioned in particular.

Apparently it’s a similar focus to the DC Super Hero Girls line, which is currently getting a very successful merchandise push, leaving empty shelves across the nation.

This continues WB/DC’s focus on their female heroes - in stark contrast to Marvel Studios. They just finished filming Wonder Woman for a 2017 release, making them the first of the two major comic book movie universes to have a female led film.

If Warner Bros can get Harley Quinn film out before Marvel’s Captain Marvel (set for 2019), that shows they have a focus on a sorely under-served part of the comic movie fandom, and I don’t think anyone expected DC to be the more progressive of the two.

More on this film as we have it.
