Last night, as a part of a special fan event for Star Trek Beyond (designed to both excite fans for the forthcoming film, and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek property), Paramount Pictures released a brand-new trailer for the film, and we’ve got it for you below.

The third film in the “reboot" series, the movie is directed by Fast & Furious’s Justin Lin, and for many - this trailer will be a welcome sight, after the first, not too terribly well-received teaser trailer.

A very cool new poster was released, too.

Personally, I’ve liked everything I’ve seen so far. This trailer definitely is a bit slower, and focuses on some of the keystones of the Trek franchise, such as the need to explore space, and the family that is the crew of the USS Enterprise. We also get some cool glimpses of the new lead baddie, played by Idris Elba under considerable makeup, plus a few comedy beats, to underline how much of a fun time this movie will be in the theaters.

All and all, I think that Star Trek Beyond will be the movie fans have been waiting for - both longtime Trek fans, and those like myself, who only joined the franchise once JJ Abrams took over in 2009.

In a cool note - they announced that the world premiere of the film will be at San Diego Comic-Con this year on July 20th, as Paramount goes all out with an outdoor IMAX screening, which will also feature live orchestration by Michael Giacchino and the San Diego Orchestra.

For the rest of us?

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22, 2016.
