While I’ve been skeptical of the sequel to Blade Runner since it was announced, I have to admit, this morning’s announcement has me very excited.

Shouted to the world via, what else, their official Twitter account, the creative team for the Blade Runner sequel announced the films official title and release date to much excitement…if also hand-wringing and concern.

Accompanied by a photo of the sequel’s director, Denis Villeneuve, in conversation with original film director Ridley Scott, original film star (and sequel co-star) Harrison Ford, and sequel lead Ryan Gossling, it’s official - the movie is now Blade Runner 2049, and will release one year from today, October 6, 2017.

Blade Runner is arguably my favorite movie of all time, so I am excited and scared for this sequel, but I’m also delighted to see it will come out 2 days after my birthday. I hope it’s a great gift.

Based on Villeneuve’s prior films - Sicario and the award-season-buzzed Arrival, I hope this is in good hands, but time will tell us….is this a Mad Max: Fury Road, or is this an Independence Day: Resurgence?
