Could we be on the precipice of the first truly-great Alien sequel in over 30 years?

That’s the question I’m asking myself after watching the latest trailer for Alien: Covenant, embedded below.

Following in the footsteps of Prometheus (a movie I enjoyed more than most), Alien: Covenant follows a decidely ill-fated attempt to populate a far off planet with a group of couples - including such beloved actors as Katherine Waterston (going full Ripley), Billy Crudup, and Danny McBride - when, as all these films go, things go terribly wrong once some Xenomorph eggs are found.

There seems to be a definitive visceral streak to the movie, and the unique makeup of the crew harkening back to the original Alien, while Ridley Scott brings back the lush visuals that made Prometheus such a joy to take in…even if the script had its flaws.

Will this be able to do what Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection couldn’t? We’ll find out on May 19, 2017, when Alien: Covenant hits theaters.
