Deadline:

I hear a romantic comedy TV series inspired by Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack is in early development for Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer service. The project, a gender-swapped take on the classic title, comes from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Bull, Ugly Betty), the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios (SMILF), the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios. Midnight Radio is comprises Scott Rosenberg — who co-wrote the High Fidelity feature — Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

High Fidelity is one of my favorite books/movies of all time, so I’m really interested to see how this plays out.

It was always a part of my “sad bastard/just broke up” media list, but what I’ve found interesting is the point that you realize you’ve matured as an adult, is the moment you realize Rob isn’t someone to aspire to be, but actually a total asshole who lets his whole life be run by his obsessions, and chasing the next new thing.

It’s a weird thing to consider given the concept of this blog.

Anyway.

I think swapping the lead to be female is an interesting inversion of the original concept, and I’d love to see what’s done with her - including her sexual identity. I’ll keep an eye on this one for sure.
