Kottke.org:

Here are three essays that make very different arguments but are worth reading, and (I think) worth reading together.

I recognize that I am, essentially, posting a link to one site which is telling you to read three more links, but I believe that all three are worth reading.

I make no qualms about how Kottke.org is an inspiration for that which I’m trying to do with blast-o-rama. now, even if my focus is so much more on me sharing links to things I find interesting, and giving a quick fire opinion on them.

But in the same regard, the goal of this site now — besides being a centralized hub of stuff I think is cool or interesting — is about walking away from things which are owned and controlled by others and taking a stake in a web which you yourself control and own. (Even if I’m using a backend in WordPress which is owned, operated, updated and maintained by others.)

My relationship with the Internet is so weird.

It literally pays my bills, but I consider it harmful and toxic. I filter it to give me the things I think I’d want more, but still participate in the elements I find most harmful (looking at you, Facebook.) And in all of that, I think there’s been no greater communicational or informational medium ever.

The best things in my life happened because of the web. And in many ways, so did the worst.

But I aim to be the change. And maybe more of us can, if we look at what worked, what failed, and what could be?
