Google Announces STADIA, a Cloud-Based Gaming Platform
As expected, Google got gamers frothing at the mouth with the announcement of Stadia (the plural of 'stadium', it turns out), the home of their new cloud-based gaming ambitions.
The goal is to eliminate the friction between games and gamers. You can play on practically every device you already own (tablets, phones, anything which runs Google Chrome), you can jump into games directly from YouTube videos or streams, and even join others games in progress within a matter of seconds. And it's all in 4K HDR, thanks to the cloud. Really.
We don't know much beyond that - more will be announced this Summer, but so far, it's coming in 2019, it's got a cool dedicated controller (with sharing and Google Assistant buttons, above), and both UbiSoft and ID have pledged to develop games...along with an in-house development team, headed by ex-UbiSoft and EA lead Jade Raymond.
This could be really cool, gang. Stay tuned.
