Variety:

Netflix is plunking down an astounding $450 million for the rights to “Knives Out 2" and “Knives Out 3," the next two follow-ups to the 2019 murder mystery, sources tell Variety. The films will reunite director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig, who teamed up so memorably on the first detective story.

The first “Knives Out" was produced by Media Rights Capital. It was distributed by Lionsgate, going on to earn $311.4 million on a $40 million budget. Johnson was nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay. It was not immediately clear who benefits from the massive windfall, as MRC is said by sources to have acquired the rights to the material from Johnson and his producing partner Ram Bergman.

As someone who has been a massive fan of Rian Johnson’s work since he first saw Brick, and absolutely adored the world of Benoit Blanc we got our first glimpse into with Knives Out, I am absolutely stunned.

I was just commenting about how so much of the Netflix original library leaves me cold, and now, here we are, two movies I definitely want to see.

I’m so damned excited for these movies. Get PAID, Rian!
