INSIDE JOB Cancelled By Netflix, Despite Season 2 Pickup
Netflix has swung the axe on “Inside Job," the adult-animation conspiracy comedy, after one season, according to creator and showrunner Shion Takeuchi.
Takeuchi, a writer on “Gravity Falls" and other shows, announced the cancellation Sunday evening on Twitter. “I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel season 2 of Inside Job,'" she wrote. “Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up."
Now, look, I will personally admit to being part of the problem here as I had yet to watch the two parts of Inside Job released so far, despite being a big fan of Gravity Falls.
And I’ll be the first to admit that the era of “peak television" has resulted in there being more shows on the market than even professional critics can keep up with.
But between cancellations like this, after a renewal was approved, cancellation of shows mid-airing/mid-production, and well, whatever HBO Max is doing, this is a dark time to be a creative, full stop. And I don’t know the solution.
Except…maybe not chasing the funnel of money loss that is an exclusive, streaming-only, revenue system?
