The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

On a weekend where Godzilla Minus One seems to have stunned Hollywood, both with its financial success and just how-damn-good it was (I agree, I saw it last night and gave it the full 5 on Letterboxd), it’s a fun contrast to see how different the “Monsterverse” version is from Godzilla proper.

Godzilla Minus One? A heartwrenching look at post-World War II Japan, with a giant lizard as the world’s biggest analogue for the Atomic Bomb.

Godzilla x Kong? FUCK YEAH LET THEM ANIMALS FIGHT! BIG MONKEY VS BIGGER MONKEY AND THERE’S A CUTE LITTLE ONE TOO AND HERE COMES GODZILLA. Also? Rebecca Hall is there.

You’re goddamned right I’m in. See you in March, Monkeys!
