Forced into release roughly 15 hours before it was scheduled thanks to a leaker, Rockstar Games has finally given fans a look at Grand Theft Auto 6.

It’s been ten years (!) since GTA 5, and twelve years (!!) since that game had its own reveal. Suffice to say, fans wanted to know when we’d get a new installment for some time now.

So…what do I think? Credit for the use of “Love is a Long Road” by Tom Petty. Rockstar always knows a deeper cut to get the vibe of their games across. Visually what is shown here is a great next-gen extension of the trademark GTA style and feel, and the idea of a matched pair of criminals, Bonnie and Clyde style, is a good shakeup to the formula.

Beyond that? I’ve seen one too many game trailers to get specifically hyped on what’s shown here. No ill will to the Rockstar team, but given — for example — the way another open world game failed to deliver on its initial promise in Cyberpunk 20771, after its own jaw-dropping reveal, I’m holding onto any semblance of hype.

2025 is a very long way away. Let’s hope that Rockstar can deliver the game they promise here.

Maybe I should finally get around to playing Grand Theft Auto 5, then…

  1. Though I have heard that through lots of hard work and updates, the game is pretty stellar now. I should pick it up.
