For weeks, pop-culture art show mavens Gallery1988 has been hinting a very special collection of art, and while the full reveal has yet to hit the web, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has officially revealed that they have (through Gallery1988) commissioned a series of nine screen-printed posters celebrating this years best picture nominations.
Thus far, all is known is the prints and the artists – pricing or a release date have yet to be revealed, but they are so fantastic we had to share them right away.
The series includes the following:
- Amour by Matt Owen
- Argo by Anthony Petrie
- Beasts of the Southern Wild by Rich Kelly
- Django Unchained by Mark Englert
- Les Miserables by Phantom City Collective
- Lincoln by Jeff Boyes
- Life of Pi by Tom Whalen
- Silver Linings Playbook by Joshua Budich
- Zero Dark Thirty by Godmachine
This is really career-defining work for all of these artists, and inspired across the board. I think the coolest has to be the glow in the dark Zero Dark Thirty print, but every single feels just right for each film. Well done, all, and I cannot wait to see what the Gallery1988/Academy combination brings next!
