And Lo, There Was an AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Trailer

Marvel Entertainment / YouTube:

Doomsday arrives December 18th.

Released today to coincide with the availability of tickets in “Infinity Vision”1, we have ourselves our first, official proper trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.

That sure is RDJ putting on his best vaguely European accent as Doom, who does indeed look great on camera, but there’s something really missing here. We’re checking off the B-Team box, and unlike in the original Avengers or Infinity War or Endgame, there’s a decided lack of thrill in seeing these characters interact…maybe because a lot of them have only existed in an always-connected MCU?

The big reveal of the trailer — funny, because his was the first of the teasers last year — is Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers / Captain America. Do you think he had it in his deal that he got to keep his hair long and his beard grown out?

Really, the most effective part of the trailer (besides Cyclops finally getting the Jim Lee-era suit), is Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth has always struck me as an untapped element, hiding his abilities except for performances like those in Ghostbusters and Furiosa where you realize, hey, this guy can do it all. His fear here is palpable. That’s effective. The rest…I’m not so sure of.

I do wonder, for the not-super-online of us, those who haven’t been aware of the casting process of getting RDJ and Evans back, the return of the Russos, that overall feeling that this is the big layup to try to get the MCU back on track…does this hit different? Are you excited?

May the movie blow me away.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th, 2026.

  1. Which is totally a new, cool and normal thing Disney invented just for this movie, and isn’t them being big mad about Dune Part Three having the IMAX exclusivity for December 18th. ↩︎
