Marvel To Relaunch Comics App With The Help of WEBTOON

Marvel Comics:

Comic book fans will soon have a new way to discover, read, and follow the stories they love: the new Marvel Comics app. Attendees at New York Comic Con this week will be the first to preview the new app in a booth experience on the show floor (Booth #2435). Officially launching November 16, the new Marvel Comics app will make it easier than ever for fans to find and read the stories they love with a single convenient subscription.

This will be replacing Marvel Unlimited, the very solid, but long-in-the-tooth app that has been the “all you can eat” option for nearly 20 years. Seriously, it launched in November 2007 as an in-browser product, with the app following in 2013.

What’s interesting is that one, the pricing is staying the same, but two, the level of access is changing.

The Marvel Comics app will offer two subscription tiers. The Base tier is $9.99/month (plus tax) or $69.99/year (plus tax) and provides access to the full Marvel Comics digital library, with the latest issues available as soon as 3 months after their print release. For fans who want the latest issues sooner, the Ultimate tier gives access to new comics as soon as 30 days after their print release in addition to the full library. Ultimate will be available for $12.49/month (plus tax) or $99.99/year (plus tax).

30 days after print for the higher tier. That matches what DC Comics is doing with the top tier of their service, and is something I’d hope they would match for some time.

You can sign up for the service early, starting today, over at marvel.webtoon.com. Doing so gives you a discount on the annual Ultimate subscription, at $60 for the year, versus $100.

Have to say, pretty tempting. I wonder what’s going on with my existing Unlimited sub, though…porting, I guess?

Oh, wait, scroll down, Martin. Yep, your account ports, and you get a prorated refund. A lot more info is here.

Remind me: is WEBTOON sketchy?
