After much handwringing from the film exhibition industry about MoviePass and it’s “One Movie A Day for $10/mo” subscription plan, we’re seeing the first instance of a major theater chain trying to make a go of it themselves, with Cinemark introducing their MovieClub.
As you can see above, it’s crap. $9 a month gets you one ticket, just one, along with 20% off concessions, subsequent tickets for just $9 each, no online fees and rollover of unused tickets.
Unless you’re a hardcore Cinemark fan – and really truly want to just see one movie a month – I can’t see how this works out great versus MoviePass.
A major pass for the hardcore movie nerd, but maybe this will grab the casuals?
